The term “butterfly effect” emanates from chaos theory (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_theory) and rests on the notion that the world is deeply interconnected. It describes how a tiny change in one part of a system can cause a major effect elsewhere. The American mathematician and meteorologist Edward Norton Lorenz originally explained this theory metaphorically: the flapping of a butterfly's wings in one corner of the world could result in a tornado in another corner weeks later. Hence the name of the effect.
Now what if this also applied to, say, compassion? Imagine someone showing compassion to a complete stranger in one part of the world. Out of gratitude, that person passes on their compassion to another and so on and so forth. Compassion spreads and eventually leads to the end of a war on the other side of the world. I know, I'm a dreamer. 😄 But it's worth a thought.
